During the early 1970's, my love of the mountains led me to become one of the early practitioners of cross-country skiing in the Sierra (apologies to Orland Bartholomew). Recalling a scene that I had experienced many times on trips out to Glacier Point, some as a founding member of the nascent Yosemite Nordic Ski Patrol, I set out to ski the 20 mile round trip from Badger Pass between quickly moving Pacific cold fronts hoping to capture the icy wildness of this grand view of Yosemite's winter backcountry.
