An ephemeral, snowmelt fed brook washes over lichen clothed rock on its way to the bankfull Merced, briefly revitalizing miner's lettuce and fern, before retreating in summer's heat. This blissful scene, while of no higher relief than four inches, suggested a tranquil Scottish glen in miniature.
